Not everyone will want to pay for a new quality dispenser up front. For this reason, Hydrology offers rental of Avalon Dispensers. They are built to last. Just like most things, you must take care of them for it last.

The dispenser you are renting will get swapped out every 6 months. The dispenser undergoes a deep sanitizing to keep it in tip top performance and appearance. So the dispenser we drop off went through the same process. Pretty cool, right? This is another way we show you that we care.

How does reverse osmosis work?

Bottle exchange at Hydrology is a recycle program. 5 gallon containers can be reused up to 50-60 times with proper sanitation of the containers. It is recommended to sanitize containers every 6 months. At Hydrology Water Store, we sanitize each container before it is recycled back into circulation. This is done with a 4 Phase Sanitation Process.

We've got a cool 4-step cleaning routine to make sure your water containers are spotless and germ-free:

Phase 1: Deep Cleaning
First, we scrub the outside of each container with warm soap and water. We then clean the inside thoroughly using a long-handled bristle brush, warm water, and dish soap to ensure no residue remains. A complete rinse follows to wash away any soap traces.

Phase 2: Bleach Rinse
We then fill the container with a solution made from 1 tablespoon (or 0.5 oz) of non-scented bleach (containing 5% - 9% sodium hypochlorite) mixed in 1 gallon of water. The container is shaken for 30 seconds to eliminate bacteria, fungi, and viruses effectively. Afterward, it's rinsed thoroughly to remove any bleach solution.

Phase 3: Ozone Rinse
Next, the inside of the container undergoes a 30-second rinse with high-pressure Ozone. Ozone is significantly more effective—3000 times faster, in fact—at killing off bacteria, fungi, and viruses compared to the bleach water solution.

Phase 4: Air Drying & Refill
Finally, we allow the container to air dry completely before refilling it with the freshest, purified water. This ensures that each container is not only clean but also safe for reuse, helping to keep our community healthy and hydrated.
